Flaxseed has long been cultivated in the Amdo region of Tibet — modern-day Qinghai province — where Amza’s founder, Jolma, was born. The region is renowned for its high-quality flax, which is traditionally pressed for oil and used medicinally.
Jolma grew up eating flaxseed paste in Rebgong’s famous homemade bread. She enjoyed dipping bread in nutty flaxseed oil. Flaxseed is the main source of omega-3s for Tibetans, who traditionally avoid fish due to respect for life, honoring Buddhist beliefs.
